Hello Ellinée fans! This is Emily, one of the stationery designers for the Elli shop. Last year I was asked to do a Christmas gift wrap post (seen here) and I had so much fun putting it together that it launched an even greater passion in me for creative packaging. So when I was asked to put on an artist’s workshop (whatever I wanted) at the church I attend, I decided it had to be centered around creative gift wrap, a subject that I wanted to devote more time to and would be both fun and practical for the women I knew.
In the morning we brainstormed creative alternatives to wrapping paper, scotch tape and store-bought tags and bows. I then taught some basic design elements and principles that related to gift wrap and ended with current trends and inspiration sources. I rewarded my attentive audience by teaching them the paper rose tutorial from the Ellinée blog post (seen here).
After lunch I taught additional tutorials including making gift bags from scrapbook paper and flowers from tissue paper. There were also gift tags to decorate and examples of free printables (tags and embellishments) from various websites to browse.
It was a joy for me to share my passion with other women. It was inspiring to see women coming together—moms with daughters, friends with neighbors—all ages and all different levels of experience creating something beautiful and enjoying one another’s company. Special thanks to my friends and family for helping me put on the workshop and to my friend Sarah Stout for taking these pictures!
