Our holiday gift wrap series is getting thrifty today! Lia and I decided to check out our local dollar store for creative gift wrap inspiration. Holiday decor was up and we were down right giddy. As I said in our recent blog post (the one showing our favorite wrapping materials), there are limitless ways to be creative when it comes to gift wrap. While we shopped we considered wrapping and tying materials, tag ideas and (drum roll) decorative embellishments! After a lovely crafternoon with Lia, sitting on the office floor with tissue paper flying and scissors in hand, we are pleased to show you our inspirational purchases and the creative gift wrap results! We start with Emily’s picks.
I chose tissue paper and glittered drape (which has a puffy quality to it) for wrapping materials. The snowflake coasters were turned into gift tags and the other finds were used for embellishment. A coffee filter became a snowflake. A few napkins became a poinsettia. A holiday figurine, three peppermint sticks and a velvet bow became creative gift toppers. The party spoon became a nice finishing touch for a food gift. We’ll be covering food gifts in our holiday gift wrap series, so stay tuned for more ideas there!
The dollar store item is the emphasis in each design, so I toned down the other components. That’s one of my gift wrapping secrets, er, design principles. Choose one thing to be the focus and make the other gift wrap components play a supportive role. You know my favorite example is probably the cheapest? I’m in love with that coffee filter snowflake! It cost me a penny. :-)
Tomorrow Lia will share her inspiration purchases and gift wrap results. They are awesome. ~Emily

Love the way you made the poinsettia!
Thanks!
These wrapping ideas are so cute. As I haven’t had any ideas for presents yet I’m not sure how to incorporate, but I love the different styles. It’s just more spicy as the classic wraps. Great!
Yay! More ideas in a few minutes!
i’ll definitely be taking inspiration from this post, thank you hun!
We love sharing our ideas!
Really creative- I absolutely love your ideas.
I’m wondering how the paper napkin poinsettia was done? Are these individual petals?
