I knew I wanted to do either interior design or graphic design when I finished high school. I decided on the graphic design route and after college worked at a couple of design agencies in town. I left the workforce on the due date of my first baby and immediately started freelancing on the side. A little normalcy felt nice since motherhood was so new to me. I found stationery design a couple of years ago and it has turned into a passion.
I have been married seven years now and have two little girls, ages 1 1/2 and 4. My husband graciously converted our garage to an awesome office space with his dad this past summer so I work from home several days a week and try to peel myself away from Pinterest as much as humanly possible.
2. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
Eclectic, modern, vintage, retro, elegant, witty and whimsical. I like pushing the envelope, no pun intended. My favorite hands-on projects now revolve around packaging (gift wrap) and party decor ideas. They bring me a lot of joy.
3. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN PROCESS?
I get inspired by something I see and play with the idea until something sticks. If I can’t do it justice then I table it for later. When I stop disliking a design, it’s done. I’m my own harshest critic. It’s hard for me to stop tweaking.
4. WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION?
I’m always looking at things through a designer’s perspective. Nothing is off limits for inspiration. I’ve always had an affinity for things vintage/folksy/whimsical. I’ll pick out one detail I like and build upon it in a fresh way.
I get a lot of inspiration from blogs. My favorite bloggers are as follows (in no particular order): 1) Leslie from A Creative Mint (her studio in Los Angeles inspired my office remodel), I LOVE her moodboards and styled photographs. I love that she’s a mom, like me, and gets to her craft when she can. I can identify. 2) Sweet Paul, a food and prop stylist and crafter that wows me every issue in his online magazine. 3) Ez from Creature Comforts for her color palettes, creative packaging and DIY crafts. Love her Gifted Magazine, too! 4) Danni from Oh, Hello Friend Blog for her packaging and crafts. 5) Jordan Ferney from Oh Happy Day for her DIY party inspiration crafts. 6) Hello Sandwich for her kawaii-style crafts and wrappings. I love extravagant cuteness.
5. WHAT IS YOUR MOST TREASURED POSSESSION?
I love a collected-over-time/eclectic look. My latest find is a 1968 dog trophy. It has a pink marble base and a metal poodle perched on top. I frequently shop thrift stores for things to inspire my room decor and now I shop for photo props, too. It’s super addicting. I guess I’m a stylist at heart, whether it’s on paper or the shelves of my office.
I don’t cherish things forever. As my tastes and interests change, I am notorious for packing things up and donating them back to thrift stores with wild abandon. I consigned my wedding dress a few months after my wedding, if that tells you anything. I do cherish relationships, though. :)
